What is your question?
my 2004 Kia Optima has suddenly had a huge loss in my mpg ratings. I had been getting 18 - 20 mpg and in one week it dropped to 8 - 9 mpg. Tire pressure is fine. I had an oil change and mentioned this to the mechanic. He said he wouldn't have any idea what had happened.

That is a huge loss of fuel economy, I agree. Is the check engine light on? If so, get the computer scanned for trouble codes and data. If not, I'd wonder about maybe something getting into the air filter like a plastic bag to plug it up. next idea is that the coolant temperature sensor (ECT) is failing and sending false cold data to the computer. Another idea is the exhaust pipe being blocked or dented causing lots of backpressure. It's also possible that the airflow sensor (MAF) is failing. Did your mechanic use a scanner tool to read the trouble codes and data? If you need a Kia specialist, here's a link for you: http://repairpal.com/kia-repair-in-muscatine-iowa
