My kia wont engage in park..the R light is on

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Well, unfortunately - your vehicle seems to indeed be in "R" - reverse gear just like it says. If the shift lever will not move further into other "P" park position, it is possible that the shift lever linkage that hooks it up to the transmission itself has become out of adjustment for some unknown reason. Make sure until you can make repairs that you ensure your parking brake is fully engaged to avoid a roll away event! You can move the shift lever to the "N" neutral position to start the vehicle in the meantime.
