Why does my jeep sputter in drive or reverse but not in park no warning lights

I deliver mail so I stop and go alot. When idoling in drive or reverse it sputters and sometimes as I'm driving. What could be wrong. No warning lights on dash. Also after sitting a few hours trying to start it does a continuous start and finally starts
