It could be many things, unfortunately and without experiencing the problem first hand or being able to do some basic diagnostic tests its hard to say. It could be a throttle position switch air flow meter/map sensor. Your car has On Board Diagnostic capabilities a professional grade scan tool connected to ( common to all 1996 onward vehicles) a 16 pin diagnostic socket under the dash of the car can be used to look at O2 sensor patterns, and long and short term fuel trims for each bank of your engine, looking at the information on a professional grade scan tool allows sensor data to be read off the scan tool rather than doing intrusive testing at each sensor. For tests and specifications there is a company that independent auto repair shops get their information from, this same information is available inexpensively for people that work on their own cars.. The information is year make and model specific, covering repair procedures, torque specifications, fluid capacities and specifications, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect....
