what causes spitting and sputtering at random times

will start off fine but when the rpms increase it seems to start spitting and sputtering, it doesnt happen everytime you drive it but once it starts it very seldom stops unless you turn the jeep off for a minute and then re-start it. i have changed the fuel filter and check the plugs, plug wires and distributor and they are all fine.
