Hi, I'm Bogi, one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Great question, and a key stuck in the ignition is definitely something you'll want to sort out quickly! On your 2017 Jeep Patriot there are a few common reasons this can happen. The most frequent culprit is the steering wheel lock engaging and putting pressure on the ignition cylinder, which can usually be resolved by gently wiggling the steering wheel side to side while simultaneously turning the key. Another common cause is the shift interlock not fully recognizing that the vehicle is in park, so making sure the shifter is firmly and completely seated in the park position before trying to remove the key is worth trying as well. If neither of those simple fixes does the trick it could point to a worn or failing ignition lock cylinder, which is a known issue on this generation Jeep and would require a qualified shop to properly diagnose and replace. I wouldn't recommend forcing the key as this could cause additional damage and potentially leave you with a bigger repair bill.
