What is your question?
Hello! My 2016 jeep patriot started to decelerate and sputter/shake with a low inconsistent humming noise. The engine light and red lighting bolt light came on. The read/code stated “electronic throttle control system bank 1- forced limited RPM”. My questions are, what exactly does that mean, how does that problem occur so I can learn from this, and should I have my mechanic try seeing if the throttle valve just needs cleaning before ordering and replacing any parts? He quoted me $180 to clean it. And $620 to “replace the electronic throttle body, performance idler learning, total parts & labor $620” what do you think of those prices? And should I just have my step dad try cleaning it first for way cheaper? And if that doesn’t work have my step dad do the replacement? I would pay for all the parts and what not but from what I’m researching, it could be much cheaper at home. But, if you recommend having a professional do the work, I’ll take that advice and be safe than sorry.
What makes this problem better or worse?
What makes it “better” or worse? is turning the car off and on again. A second mechanic reset the engine light and (I could be wrong) took it out of limp mode. Not sure if he helped or made it harder.
How long has your 2016 Jeep Patriot had this problem?
A few days
