2012 jeep patriot with a cvt tansmission, I'm getting mixed info on what fluid

On my 2012 jeep patriot with a cvt tansmission, I'm getting mixed info on what fluid to replace (that leaked out) after replacing passenger side front axle (half shaft)? 80W90 gear oil or the transmission's CVTF+4? What poured out onto the driveway did not look or smell like 80w90 gear oil (it appeared like a thin amber/brown)
