Keeps blowing brake light bulbs, housing is partially melted, can I change just the socket or do I have to switch the entire thing

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! On your 2008 Jeep Liberty, the tail light assembly is typically a whole piece, meaning you'd need to replace the entire assembly if the housing is partially melted. If you’re blowing brake light bulbs, that’s often a sign of a short circuit or overheating, which can definitely happen if the housing is damaged. While some vehicles allow for just the socket to be replaced, it’s usually safer to swap the whole assembly in your case to avoid future issues.
