Gets bad gas mileage

I've got an 08 Liberty and get around 19-22mpg myself. I'd have someone check out what's going on in the engine with a scan tool with live data. Specifically, I'd take a look at the O2 sensors and the short/long term fuel trim to give you some direction. It would tell you if you have a single bank/side issue or a whole engine issue.
