The air conditioning compressor runs continuously even when button is off. When I unplug it it turns off and the clutch engages when plugged back in. Dealer tells me its normal.

Air conditioning will work when in the defrost position of the heater controls so that air is dehumidified, try moving the heater controls away from defrost and see if the compressor then turns off if the ac switch is also off.
My fault for not being clear enough. The controls are not on defrost or any other setting that should make the compressor run.I will try it in the off position and see what happens and get back with you.
The a/c clutch will engage periodically when you direct air to defrost, floor, or floor+upper vents. The only time the a/c clutch will not engage is when it is on upper vents only. The clutch should engage and then disengage in the floor and floor+upper modes. If it does not then something else is wrong.
