This sounds like a bad front CV axle, or front driveshaft. When they go bad you hear it, loudly. Afterwards you have the sound like clicking or it can sound like you are dragging a chain down the street. In either case, your mechanic will be able to tell which is bad in about 15 minutes. Just FYI, 4HI should never be used on dry pavement, and preferably not on pavement at all unless it is covered in snow or ice.
