I changed the Alternator on my 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8. Started by disconnecting the positive terminal from battery. Second removed the power cable from alternator as well as the clip wire from the back of alternator. Three Bolts removed and it was out. Put new alternator in and reversed the process, connected battery and I am completely dark. No power to anything. Hooked up the vehicle with jumpers to my wife's car and all interiors lights and gauges are working but car won't turn over. I assume I have a bad alternator. I remove and put old one in as it was still working just failing and I am still dark. I searched for answers online and it seems it should be a fuse issue but which is my "Main Fuse" as I'v seen it referred to online. Apparently it should be a 50 or a 60. I only have three 50's and one is ASD, one is Heater, and if I remember correctly the other is radiator fan. What is going on with my Jeep???
How long has your 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee had this problem?
1 day
Due to short circuit to ground > At some point you had to see some sparks flying somewhere!! ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE CABLE - there is absolutely no need to disconnect the positive unless replacing battery or for cleaning > FACT.... Disconnecting the NEGATIVE cable eliminates the battery altogether. Good luck!
