i installed new alternator jump car it runs but alternator gauge moving back and forth put a battery charger on battery but didnt seem to take full charge didnt have meter to test battery will take battery to have tested how can i be sure new alternator is working properly
For best results read installation instructions. If you install a new (or re-man.) alternator with a badly discharged battery , you can end up damaging the alt or causing failure. ALT. is designed to maintain battery not recharge it. FULLY charge your battery and have it tested , it may have one or more bad cells. Have alt. tested by a mechanic , not someone who sells parts. If you need to , take the alternator off and have it 'bench tested' (autozone or other parts store). Voltage regulator is in PCM , Diagnostic tools and info would be extremely helpful , 2002 can be monitored with a good scan tool to check PCM 'command' for alt. output.I'm guessing you have a V8, 4X4 but the 6Cyl. is regulated the same way.
thank you did have battery tested it 17months old but it was bad, not sure if alt was bad but i replaced because when i took it to autozone to test ,their wire for my car was damaged and it came up failed not sure if it was because of wire or it was bad. i never believed it would just be the battery because of its age and it was a diehard gold. but thanks againfor input
