Is there a relay switch on the gear shift that allows the vehicle to start

There IS a park//neutral safety switch on the transmission... Simple test: *Apply park brake*... Try to start in neutral and move shifter back and forth 'slightly' while HOLDING key to the START position... If that doesn't help... Turn on headlights and have a helper watch them while you turn key to the START position... Do the lights dim AT ALL each time key is turned to start? **IF the lights dim**...park//neutral safety switch is NOT the problem and further testing is needed.. Post results of both test for more info.
