My jeep will not stay running once you take the foot off the gas pedal?

Ive changed the radiator, spark plugs, cleaned out the breather intake , cleaned out old gas, sounds like the starter may be lagging? I dont want to put a hole lit more money into my jeep so would cleanung the starter be a good idea?

What makes this problem better or worse?

Keeping your foot on the gas pedal. Once you take it off it stalls.

How long has your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee had this problem?
