RPM surge/unintended acceleration

Having an RPM surge or jump on its own and the vehicle accelerating on its own can be caused by a few different things that come to mind. The first would be a vacuum leak. I recommend checking over the engine area to see if any type of a vacuum leak can be located. If a vacuum leak is found it should be repaired. The second cause can be an issue with your electronically controlled throttle body or the accelerator pedal assembly itself as both of these are monitored and controlled by electronics and electronic signals. The third would be a possible issue with a component like the engine computer itself acting up internally. I recommend having all of these checked into to help pinpoint which is at fault so it can then be repaired properly from there.
