Hi! This is Bo with Car Genius at RepairPal! No one wants their Jeep to be sludgy! The presence of oil in the coolant reservoir and sludge-like substance in the coolant indicates a possibly serious issue. It could be a blown head gasket or a cracked engine block. This allows oil and coolant to mix, leading to a sludgy appearance. The leaks of both coolant and oil further confirm a significant problem. Immediate inspection by a qualified mechanic is necessary to diagnose the exact issue and prevent further damage to the engine. There may also be an oil cooler or oil filter housing that is allowing the mixture of the two. Determining the leaks is a first step to solving the secret of the sludge!
