AC and Exhaust smell

Exhaust smell: have the exhaust system to check for any leaks. This is important - from the engine all the way back. If there is any leak at all, it's likely it will come into the passenger compartment. As far as the AC - when you say it goes in and out, do you mean it's cold then hot? Help me understand more about what this means.
