my 2007 jeep compass has severe hesitation and jerks when i drive down the road

My jeep compass 2007 get jerky and pulses sometimes slight, but often very severe when I accelerate even slightly. if i let up and coast it stops. no one can find the reason it has had the catalytic converter replaced and it helped for a week or two than started again
