What is your question?
I recently bought a used 2007 compass, which had an after-market stereo installed. It had a wire leading to the back of the vehicle, I assume to power an amp, as well as 2 speaker leads wired into the harness speaker wires. The stereo would power on, and shows activity on radio channels, but has no sound. I bought a new radio, wired it in using the new plug, but have the same problem. The unused wires from the plug are: the steering-remote, power antenna, tel. mute. The ignition-on (red) is wired directly to the fuse box I believe, as it is cut and taped at the plug, and actually does not power the unit on when wired to the plug red. I have tried mixing the ant. power with power in hopes it would power an on-board amp that I am unaware of (?) but no luck. The stereo powers on, shows signal on AM/FM channels, shows info when a CD is inserted, but still has NO sound. Any help would be appreciated, this is my wife's vehicle and she is not happy with me about it lol. TY. Bill.

Hello, since you are replacing an inoperative existing aftermarket system with a replacement aftermarket system, you are definitely flying a bit blind. If you were just replacing the factory unit, you could buy a kit that plugs into the factory wiring and would be finished. But since you are not having any luck getting sound, it is very hard to say what is going on unless you have a wiring diagram that can point you in the right direction, using the replacement radio alone with only the wires you need to transmit sound to the speakers. Some of these vehicles -- if equipped with premium sound -- had an amplifier, and it would be mounted in the cargo area. A faulty amplifier, disconnected or missing amplifier could be the source of the problem. I would imagine you have an amplifier in your replacement radio built in, and sometimes you can experience problems trying to get it all work together. I would suggest trying a retailer like Crutchfield -- they have been a good resource for me in the past regarding aftermarket audio unit installations. Good luck!
