4WD Temporarliy unavailable

What is your question?

During Start brake pedal will not compress, Engine will not start. (Battery indicates 12.7 volts) Disconnect battery for 1 min. After multiple tries= engine starts (Check Engine light is lit)When driving, check engine light stays ON and dashboard says"4WD Temporarily Unavailable". After engine stop...will not restart. No other symptoms

What makes this problem better or worse?

Random occurrence; no prior problems.
