my 97 grand Cherokee did the same thing- my local mechanic finally found the wiring to the computer had a short- you can't get the "pig tails" at dealerships now but he did find them at a salvage shop from a Dodge pkp. and he spliced them in the main wiring. CAUTION....... there are 3 different types of computers on these Jeeps so be sure you match then to the correct one, hope this helps.
I finally got to start the engine. It was the crank position sensor, it came factory defected. I have a friend that haves the same model cherokee and gave me a cps he had in his back yard and I installed it and it started. Finally. Thanxs for advice.
