Clutch petal does not release clutch

Reasons the clutch pedal does not actively release the clutch: 1) Clutch master cylinder is failing. If so, the clutch won't have hydraulic pressure to release the clutch 2) Clutch slave cylinder is failing. I'd say these are the most likely causes. Overheating hydraulic fluid could also be a possible cause. A fluid change and bleeding of the system would possibly help,. but this is not the most likely cause.
