What is your question?
My Jeep will run if I pour gas in the carburetor but has new fuel pump and filter and will not run when I just cycle through the key and try to get it to run it will not get received fuel to the rails.
What makes this problem better or worse?
If I put starting fluid in there it runs smooth if I add gas to the carburetor it rough idle
How long has your 1990 Jeep Cherokee had this problem?
Have this problem for the last 2 months since I own the Jeep I just got it from a guy and he tried to be his own mechanic and therefore I'm trying to work out all the bugs

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! With your 1990 Jeep Cherokee being carbureted, it sounds like you're experiencing a fuel delivery issue. The carburetor needs a proper fuel supply to mix with air and create the right fuel-air mixture for combustion. Since it runs with gas poured directly into the carb, check the fuel lines for clogs or leaks. Also, inspect the float and needle in the carburetor, as they might be stuck, preventing fuel from entering the jets. You also mentioned a fuel rail, which isn't typical in carburated vehicles. If it is, the fuel system works by pumping fuel from the tank, through the filter, to the injector rail, and into the intake manifold. Since it starts with fuel added manually, it sounds like fuel isn’t reaching the injectors, even with a new pump and filter. I'd suggest checking for any blockages, particularly in the fuel lines or rail, and making sure the fuel pump relay and wiring are in good shape. You may also have a pressure regulator issue.
