I have a pair of wires red and black in the boot of my S Type IT IS NOT A XJR

Thanks I want to know, is this the reason why the radio does not accept its code, all sorts of digits on the illuminated screen. Is it logical to say that it has power and the circuit is unstable, as the red wire is connected to the battery and the black wire is not connected. The black wire has a male connector and it is next to a female connector, coming from a branch off the wiring harness, in the boot. Can you please help.
