How do I Troubleshoot a Jaguar XJ8? By Michael Scarn, eHow Contributor updated January 26, 2011 Print this article The Jaguar XJ series was first introduced in 1968. The series continued to be manufactured until 2008. The 2008 Jaguar XJ8 was equipped with a 4.2 liter eight cylinder engine. The XJ8 came with several standard features including power remote door locks, alloy wheels, remote trunk release, adjustable pedals and a rear parking sensor. Because the XJ8 has so many different parts and components it can be difficult to properly troubleshoot problems you are having with the vehicle. One method to troubleshoot the XJ8 is to listen for the types of noises the car makes and where on the car those sounds are coming from. Related Searches: transmission clutchtransmission manual Difficulty: Moderate Instructions 1 Examine the transmission area of the vehicle when you hear a chattering noise underneath the vehicle as you drive. The clutch bearing and clutch assembly should be inspected to see if they have become worn, broken or are missing. The clutch bearing may also sometimes become dry and seized. You should also check the flywheel if your Jaguar has an automatic transmission to see if it or its pressure plate have become warped. If your have a manual transmission the ring gear may have become worn or faulty. 2 Check several engine components when your Jaguar backfires as you drive. The timing belt, timing chain and timing set may have slipped or broke. Dirty or worn fuel injectors can also cause the car to backfire. Other parts to inspect include the carburetor, needle seat, PCV valve, engine wireset, distributor cap, spark plug, intake manifold gasket, crankshaft gear, camshaft, alternator and voltage regulator. Any one of these parts, or a combination of them, can cause a backfiring of the engine when they fail, become warped or are damaged. 3 Inspect the pinion bearing when your car makes a growling sound. Replace the bearings if they have become worn or damaged. If the growling noise comes primarily as you turn the steering wheel of the car, look at both the power steering pump and power steering hose to see if either part has failed, is leaking or become worn. 4 Look at the wheel nuts and brake calipers when the Jaguar makes a scraping noise as you drive. The wheel nuts may be loose, worn or damaged. The brake caliper may be stuck and is causing brake drag. If you hear the scraping noise as you press your brakes, check the brake pads and shoes as well as your rotors in the area where you hear the noise to see if any of these parts need to be replaced. I just looked at the instructions they have a whole box of tools for what should be a simple job. Perhaps if you wanted to reduce cost remove the suspension hub yourself and bring it to a Jaguar specialty shop or dealer.
Take Tire off, Remove brake Caliper and pads,Make sure brake caliper is not hanging by the hose. Remove brake rotor, then use a small flat head screw driver and hammer to remove the dust cap. Once dust cap is removed then remove the cotter pin and nut. Unscrew nut then pull on hub is will come off. remove bearings and races. Clean and pack new bearings and reinstall. IMPORTANT TIP#1 After you slide the hub on the shaft only tighting the hub nut enough to remove bearing play.
