I live in Michigan and heard and felt the Trac system kick in on snowy roads, but I'm not sure what exactly it's doing.

What makes this problem better or worse?

Icy and slick winter conditions.

This system is very similar to most other traction control systems of this era. It will close the throttle to limit engine power when wheel slip is detected from a wheel speed sensor. It can also incorporate abs braking when slip is detected. Alex
