What is your question?
So my father bought the car not to long ago and we noticed that the drivers door doesn't open from the inside. It also doesn't lock, but the door opens just fine from the outside. What is wrong with it? Can it be fixed or do I need to replace it completely?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Nothing, it's never opened from the inside.
How long has your 2005 Jaguar X-Type had this problem?
Since we bought the car a few months ago.

Hello, I would venture to guess that the cable connecting the door handle to the latch is disconnected or broken. You really have to get inside the door to find the issue, and it will be fairly obvious. The locking portion will be the same issue, as the door lock actuator and latch are the same component. Before purchasing a new actuator assembly, see if the handle has broken internally, or if the cable has become separated or broken.
So I checked on the cable and it's not broken, it doesn't look damaged, and the wire is connected but still the same problems.
Ok, If it is connected but fails to function, it is time to replace the actuator. This is not uncommon, but before you replace it, make sure you are getting power at the actuator for the lock. You should see it energize when you press the lock/unlock buttons. A test light or digital multi-meter is fine, and both are cheap.
