Cannot open trunk with key

My car has been sitting for 2 years and I cannot open the trunk with the key because the battery is new but has no juice,

What makes this problem better or worse?

Cannot use the key to open the trump

How long has your 1998 Jaguar Vanden Plas had this problem?

Transmission went out so I have not cranked the car up in 2 years
