My temperature gauge isn't working after replacing the thermostat and the temp sensor

my car recently overheated multiple times and I've already checked to make sure that I did not blow a head gasket I replace the temperature sensor that I broke in the process of replacing the thermostat and now my temperature gauge isn't working at all the car is running smoothly as far as I can tell but I'm uneasy and unwilling to drive because I can't tell what the temperature of the motor is because my gauge isn't working.
What makes this problem better or worse?
