What could be the issue if it wont hold a charge?

you need to go back to the basics. first, disconnect the battery and clean all the connections. once the battery is fully charged, have it load tested. you would be shocked (no pun) how many brand new batteries are bad. after this, have the charging system tested--real world, while it's running and then see how many amps the alternator is putting out.
