This is usually caused by a throttle position switch, vacuum leak or other idle control issue. These are a good place to start! Greg

same problem on mine. just changed idle air control valve and fixed it. 50 bucks and a phillips screwdriver is all that is required.

Thanks for the help. I recently scanned for error codes and found egr system failure. I am going to see about cleaning it out first (they are expensive to replace) but I am thinking that might be the cause of the rpm fluctuating. I will look into the other suggestions also especially if it is cheaper. Thanks again
