temp gauge on dashboard continually fluxuates from cold to hot

Problem occurs daily with air-conditioning off or on. My mechanic has replaced the gauge twice. One replacement was an after market guage and the second time was a new replacement purchased from Infinity. Mechanic has checked the complete dash for electrical shortages but found none. Mechanic has contacted a local business that repairs temp gages and he reports that Infinity has had numerous problems with their gauges. My Mechanic has now removed the complete dash and shipped to to the above business for thier evaluation if they can repair.
What makes this problem better or worse?

Seems like you have a good idea of what's going on. It could also be reading correctly and there is air in the system or an actual cooling problem but I'm going to assume the tech inspected that first.
