Why won't my RPMs change accordingly to my speed, both accel/decelerating?

When driving on highway my RPMs bounce right above 3 while doing 80mph in what seems to be 5th gear. If I accelerate passed 80mph the RPMs also accelerate and sound as if it's stuck on or skipping a gear. Then when I decelerate, more often from slower speeds in the city, it has a harsh downshift between some gears. Not sure which gears or the consistency since this just started within the last month or so. I never had this issue in the 3 years I've been driving.

First thing- You have owned it for 3 years , tell us what mileage is on it ? Original trans.? have you ever serviced the transmission that you know of? Has fluid level or condition been checked (properly) recently?
Miles 99.5k original trans. No known service on trans. And fluid check, as I trusted in good faith, was supposed to be done properly about a month & 1/2 ago. Unfortunately, that was not long before I started experiencing this issue, as well as a few other, more minor issues.
