What is your question?
I put in Premium gas the other day when I was real low in my tank and about 5 minutes after I left the gas station the Check Engine Soon light came on. As I was pullling out of the street i was on I pressed the gas and the car didnt seem to pick up like it usually does. Since then the RPMs are going really high and the speed isnt picking up. I cant travel on the freeway or at a speed of 60 or more and it seems like the car just isnt recognizing that it needs to change gears. what could this be??? all the mechanics want to charge over $150 just to determine what the problem is.

what's the code for the check engine light? take it to the ZONE,get them to read the code, and print it,it's free, then post it here,..i believe your car calls for Premium gas anyways, right?it's in your owners manual and inside the fuel door, and not a good idea to run the tank real low on fuel either.
It does require Premium gasoline, you are correct. I had an appointment with Infiniti today at 11am and I didn't want to pay the $175 for the initial diagnostic test, since I am real low on cash, but it seems like that may just be the best solution at the moment. Im not sure what the code was, but I had initially taken it to two different mechanics to see if they could run the tests and they checked the "check engine soon" code, but they didn't give me the code. They both told me they werent sure what the issue was and one said it could be transmission and the other said another issue. So I think taking down to Infiniti is the best idea at the moment.
ok,it's up to you.AAMCO use to to and maybe still do scan your transmission for problems, free! if you want to try them,i believe it's still free for the scan there.you DON'T have to have it fixed there if there is a problem with the transmission..also a good shop with a good scan tool with live data is going to charge you somewhere in that dollar range for that service,BUT it keeps you from throwing parts/money at your car!
What I ended up doing was taking it to the Infiniti Dealership and paid the $175 for the initial test. And they said the computer system in the valve body in the transmission needs to be replaced. It took them 4 hours to figure it out and try to fix it, but ultimately they came to the conclusion it needs to be replaced and it is going to be around $2700 to fix. Parts are $1800 and $900 in labor. I do not have the funds at this time to pay that and fix it. Is this something I can drive on for the time being?? the car is moving it just takes a second for it to pick up. I need my car for real estate. without it I cannot work. It will probably take me a couple months to come up with that kind of money.
i'm not going to tell you it's ok or not ok to drive it..but that sounds about right for the DEALER.they must be having a slow month! i would get other opinions, see what they say.and don't tell them what the dealer said!
Thank you, you've been really helpful through this! I will shop around, and try to save up the money to get it fixed.
you're welcome.post findings.
