When I hit about 65-80mph I start to hear a high pitch whistling noise. It only happens when I'm accelerating. I could hear it the loudest when I just barely tap my gas pedal and as well as when I'm on cruise control. My guess is maybe an air leak but I'm not too sure. I brought it to a mechanic once, they couldn't replicate or hear the problem. (they didn't drive it though, only put it on a lift)
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hello, this kind of noise could possibly be emanating from the rear differential - like the pinion bearing, for example. Hands on - ears on inspection is needed first hand by a trained technician who can duplicate the noise. It would be pretty apparent to someone that is skilled and trained.
