Hello, when I put my car into drive it makes a very loud and forceful clunking noise. I didn't really notice any difference in the tranny prior to this noise....please help me...thank you...p.s. it has an automatic transmission

Inspect your trans fluid and fill as needed. If level and color of fluid look good have a tran shop give u a diagnosis. Also worn suspension components can cause a clunk when shifting gears. Since it does this in drive inspect front suspension components for damage.
Inspect the transmission mounts, when you put it in gear the transmission shifts position and that may be where the clunking noise comes from. Drive the car onto ramps and check the one by the exhaust pipe and then check the one under the battery compartment. try pulling on a strong part of the engine and see if the engine moves easily.
