I have heat going to and from my heater core through the hoses but the AC switch will not allow the heat to come on I am only getting cold air

Hello, first - the AC light should always operate when the compressor turns on, which is most of the time. Even when you desire hot air, the compressor works to dehumidify the interior, which makes it warmer faster and also reduces window fogging. You may find that your coolant temperature is hot, but not hot enough. Hot to the touch is one thing - but 200 degrees is another! You wouldn't even want to touch a hose that's that hot, you can burn yourself. Either your engine isn't getting hot enough for a sustained period of time due to a thermostat issue, for example, or your climate control system is not allowing full heat, closing off any cold air.
