Why wont my 2005 hyundia tiburon gs shift back into first gear.

So when i initially start the car it will sit in first, but if i shift it into second it will not shift back down into first. This is using the slap shifter, it seems to translate over to when its just in drive as well. Once im in second i can shift between 2 and 3 freely but i cant get it back down into 1st. But even if i just put it into drive and try to use it like that it still doesnt seem to want to shift back into first.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Dont know because im scared to drive it how it is
