As long as I don't get into it hard it don't sputter... like just cruising through town... but if I try to get into it for a good take off or to accelerate it starts to sputter and cut out. And my check engine light is flashing...

Flashing = don't drive. There's a few exposed wiring service issues on the timing sensors for those vehicles. maintenance schedule needs to be followed closely as well, you'll need to have that looked at or you'll likely be trying a lot of different things
