Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I’m sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. If your Sonata's key won't release from the ignition even after putting the car in park, it could be due to a few potential issues. One common cause is a malfunctioning shift interlock system, which ensures the car is in park before allowing the key to be removed. Make sure the shifter is fully engaged in the park position. Sometimes, a slight adjustment or extra push on the shifter can help. Another possibility is a worn or faulty ignition cylinder. If the cylinder is not aligning properly, it might prevent the key from being released. Additionally, check the battery voltage, as low voltage can sometimes affect electronic components, including the ignition system. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be best to have a professional inspect the ignition and shift interlock systems to diagnose and fix the problem.
