How does a bad wheel sensor effect automatic transmission and what will the car do

Help I'm desperate! Very recently widowed grandmother raising two children and NO rides anywhere!! Also, limited income. What can I do? Shoot it?

What makes this problem better or worse?

It did this without warning. No lights on, no transmission issues no slipping or anything at all.
