When car is 1st started on cold days (approximately 40 degress and below) the trans kicks hard when car speed is decellerating. After engine warms up, the problem goes away.

if you have more than say, 60k miles on the car, get the transmission serviced or flushed. I don't know whether the filter is accessable or not, you'd have to ask a specialist. Some Hyundais have a spin-on trans filter like an engine oil filter, you might look for that. I recommend you go to a transmission shop with Mitsu or Hyundai experience and ask for advice for your shifting problem, or find a Mitsu or Hyundai specialist shop.
