Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. If your Sonata goes into reverse but not drive, it might not mean the transmission is entirely out, but it suggests a significant issue. This could be due to a problem with the transmission valve body, a shift solenoid, or internal damage to the transmission. Since it happened suddenly, it's possible that a component inside the transmission has failed or a clutch pack is worn. Even though you have transmission fluid, it's crucial to check if it is at the correct level and in good condition. If it smells burnt or is discolored, that might point to internal damage. It would be a good idea to get your car diagnosed by a professional mechanic to pinpoint the exact cause. If it's a mechanical issue, continuing to drive it could cause further damage.
