Mostly an issue in stop and go traffic. This is a recent experience.....no check engine light indicator comes on.

Items to check, 1. Cooling fan operation- Fan(s) should come on when vehicles temp. gauge is about mid way, 2. Coolant level- check while engine cold and no pressure on radiator hoses. Remove cap and top off level, 3. check for any obstructions like a plastic bag or paper that may be in front of the radiator causing low air travel trough radiator. If all these things check good, you may have either a restricted radiator or sticky thermostat (most common causes). Best to have a repair shop check it. If you overheat the engine too much you will warp the cylinder head and cause the head gasket to leak.
