We always recommend doing a PM service when you purchase a new used vehicle, regardless of when it was last serviced. It is the only fool proof way to ensure that you know everything was done and that you have good quality service. Dealerships and individuals are always looking to gain maximum profit with as little overhead as possible on vehicles. While they might have serviced it, the oil, filters, spark plugs, and brakes could be the lowest grade available. This means they can say it recently had all this work done, but the services rendered would only be enough to get by. We would suggest using a quality brand oil, oil filter and air filter, check the spark plugs if the vehicle has 75,000 miles or more on it, check the transmission fluid and coolant. Any off colors or burnt smells should be noted. Also inspect hoses and belts for cracks or abrasions, look for signs of leaks as well. Inspect the battery cables and the condition of the battery, as corrosion in/on cable ends can lead to charging and starting problems. The battery should not be more than 2 to 3 years old, and should be clean. Inspect the tires for signs of irregular wear and dry rot cracks, this will help rule out expensive repairs in suspension and alignment issues if all is well. We hope this helps get you on your way.
