why is the gas overflowing out of tank when trying to fill it.

Having the same type of problem with my 96 chevy 3500 truck. Was first told it was my vapor cannister. Now looking into the cannister purge valve. In the meen time, i can still put fuel in tank, but at a very slow pace.
