Turns over ,but will not start.

What is your question?

My can will not start up, the engine will turn over but it wont start up...it acts like it wants to.It sounds like it's starving for fuel. I have to keep the iginition turn on to the on position,trying to get the motor to keep up ,while i'm trying to start.....i dont want to kill the starter. what could it be?
