does the oil temp sensor in transmission do not change speed?

my car was not riding for a few months and now when I start it my transmission when I put it in "D" to drive it shift to hard and when it rides it won't change speed. I think it is in 2nd speed only it rides..i google and only thing I found is that the OIL TEMP SWITCH maybe the problem. If I change it and DOESN'T what else it may be?? can you help me pleas..
